In the second week of June we had the pleasure to host the European Workshops of International Studies (EWIS) in Cardiff. EWIS is the second largest conference format of the European International Studies Association composed of dedicated workshops. 320 participants came for 25 workshops that covered themes from international security, global development, global health, to the politics of representation in museums.
Leading the local organization team, our goal was to deliver the best EWIS ever. To do so we introduced a range of new formats, including happy hours, a closing party, but also a kindergarten to assist parents in attending the conference. The aim was also to prop up the conference keynote and make this an event that can leave a mark on the discipline. We were delighted to host Professor Peter Sloterdjik, who gave a lecture that carefully analysed the trends that are currently undermining democracies. The lecture will be published by New Perspectives, the leading IR journal in Central and Eastern Europe.
