My article titled “Pathways to Practice: Praxiography and International Politics” is now online available as open access on the European Political Science Review website. The article addresses the question what the methodological implications of the practice turn are. Arguing that praxiography is the best label to describe the methodology of practice theory I discuss research strategy as well as different methods to capture practice. The article intends to offer guidelines for those interested in writing a praxiography as well as makes the argument that practice theory requires a genuine methodological discourse.

In the Field: Conference on “Good order at sea off Eastern Africa: Beyond piracy”
From 18.9.-.20.9.2013, the 3rd International Conference on Strategic Theory in Dar es Salam, Tanzania will explore which lessons can be learned from Somali piracy and how maritime security governance in the region can be strengthened. The conference attended by academics, defense experts and maritime security practitioners is organized by the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University and the Royal Danish Defence College.

In the Field: London International Shipping Week
From September 9th-13th I will attend the London International Shipping Week and participate in events on maritime security, piracy as well as the DSEI 2013. 
Research Grant for Piracy Project
The Economic and Social Research Council of the UK will sponsor my research on piracy and maritime security for the next three years. The project titled “Counter-Piracy Governance – A Praxiographic Analysis” is funded under the Future Research Leader Scheme. In the project I will study the different institutional responses to piracy and maritime insecurities with a focus on East and West Africa.
Visiting Fellowship in Copenhagen
In May 2013 and from October to December 2013 I will join the Centre for Advanced Security Theory at Copenhagen University as a visiting fellow. During my stay I will work on a number of publications which intend to developing a framework for studying problematization practices. Using the case of maritime piracy I intend to combine insights from Actor-Network Theory and International Practice Theory, as well as Securitization.
New Institutional Affiliation
In Spring ’12 I will join the Cardiff School of European Studies as a Lecturer in International Relations.
Presentation at WISC 2011
In August (17-20, 2011) I will participate in the Conference of the World International Studies Comittee (WISC). I present two papers, one on the knowledge politics of the United Nations drawing on my recent research on piracy, and a paper on methodology discussing praxiography in international relations.
Leverhulme Fellowship. Moving to London
I have joined the Greenwich Maritime Institute as a Leverhulme visiting fellow to continue my research on contemporary maritime piracy.
